What I Learned From Miss North Carolina

If you follow me on Facebook know that I had the pleasure of styling Miss North Carolina for a photo shoot earlier this week. It was a wonderful experience, and even our time together was short, she is a strong impression on me.

Adrienne Core, aka Miss North Carolina, was a real pleasure to work with. First of all, shoot for a local magazine, Triangle Style, which I am a regular contributor. This shoot was one of those rare occurrences where it all came together seamlessly - no, wait - actually, it's not really effective. There were a few glitches on the road. But look at the results of shooting, you never would know. The results are formed from a combination of hard work by a handful of dedicated professionals, but much of the attitude and mindset. Allow me to share with you I took:

1 A positive attitude will take you away - Adrienne was optimistic attitude is evident from the minute I met her, but what is surprising is that, despite the damp, oh, about 99% (or so it felt), it is kept real smile on her face and her enthusiasm was contagious.

2 No excuses - Styling photo shoot when there is no time for a fitting model can be risky. With little to no consistency in clothing sizes, we were left with a size 4 model, which could barely squeeze jeans that should have fit her just fine, according to the typical style of the translations. Is it down? Not one bit. She was willing to do what it took to get those jeans buttoned. Adrienne forged ahead and let us dress her in jeans that were sized too small, and even wore a wool capelet without so much as breaking a sweat. Is she embarrassed? I'm sure she is. Is this show? Not one bit. She is obviously committed to doing its best to take 'no excuses' approach. The results speak for themselves.

3 Trust your instincts - When selecting clothing for a photo shoot, I had little to go on except what I knew to be the hot trend of the season. I saw a headshot of models, and had a list of sizes, but pulling clothes for someone when they can to try to be a tricky proposition. Trusting instinct, I got a few back-up the case and was glad I did. I have found over the years that when I trust that instinct will guide me to success. shoot turned out better than we expected, and an editor pays me a huge compliment when he wrote: "I must say that you chose out, so many great clothes and coordinate them nicely. You're in the right job." After years of dressing women and helps them make good choices, it became easy for me to find the right colors, shapes and styles for women highlight the best assets. When I remember that this is what I great, I do not panic!

4 Do what you love - It is clear that Miss North Carolina is a true passion for what she is doing. And with a busy calendar that her travels around the country and beyond, it's a good thing, because if she did she would surely tire of her hair and makeup done, what comes to signing autographs (yes, if you're not really into it, all gets old quickly). Adrienne is the pure joy of being in service is evident and it is clearly in the right position for her. When you love what you do, it does not seem like work!

5 No one succeeds alone - Coordinating the work of a photo shoot several people who have their jobs to perfection. It takes a team of talented people to create success, and when we surround ourselves with those we can rely on to do their job well, we are able to do what we do best. This shoot was no exception. Miss NC stepped back and let me do my job, let Karen out of the hair and face lounge to ensure her hair and makeup were perfect, and let Mary Surles shoot away. Everyone did his job well, and the results were successful series of photos that will appear in the autumn issue of the Triangle style early next month.
